Big News!

Hey guys! It's been a long time since I last posted--I know. I was really struggling to come up with new content for the blog, so I decided to take a step back and let myself enjoy the holidays instead of forcing myself to come up with topics to post. That being said, I hope you all had a lovely Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah, New Year, and everything else in between!
Since it's been so long, I wanted to give an update about where I'm at in life writing-wise, as well as announce something pretty exciting!
As far as my personal writing has gone, it's been an adventure to say the least. I struggled with my book a lot last year, and I really couldn't quite figure out why. I finally sat down and went through each possibility of what my issues could be, and I quickly realized that while I have made a lot of changes to my story, most of the core plot points haven't changed. In other words, I have been rewriting chapters over and over but leaving the things that happen in those chapters (for the most part) the same. It's almost like painting a picture. Say you paint a canvas a really ugly puke-like green. Then you add some flowers and some trees and other little details to try and make it look pretty. But in the end, you still have an all-around ugly painting.
That is my issue with Unperfected. I wrote this book when I was seventeen, and in the four years since, I've been trying to rewrite the same plot. Never did it occur to me that my plot itself could be the issue!
So I've been going through and making some pretty big changes to the core of my story; something that should have been done a long time ago! So far it's been a HUGE help, and I'm really excited to see where these new changes take me.
Aside from my book, I've been dabbling in a little poetry here and there as well to give my mind something else to focus on, which leads me to something very exciting I have to share with you!
A few weeks ago, I was contacted by a publishing house that had seen my work in my college's literary magazine. Because they liked my poems, they invited me to join a project they've been working on for poets in each state across America.
I am very excited to announce that my poem titled "My Painting" will be published in Michigan's Best Emerging Poets at the end of this month!
The book is currently available for pre-order on Z Publishing's website. It's filled with tons of beautiful poems from all kinds of writers, so I really encourage you to check it out!
If you would like to purchase the book (or any book on their website, for that matter) it would mean so much to me if you used this specific link, as doing so gives me credit and allows me to earn a small royalty from the sale.
I am super excited to see my work in print, and I would like to thank anyone in advance who purchases the book. Your support means so, so much!
Taking some time off allowed me to brainstorm and come up with some new posts for the blog, so keep an eye out for those! I will also be posting updates about Michigan's Best Emerging Poets the closer we get to publication day!
