The Writers Not Writing Tag!

Hey guys! While scrolling through Twitter, I saw a post from Hallie Jenkins called the Writers Not Writing tag. It looked really fun, so I thought I would do it today! You can check out Hallie's post here.

Do you have a day job?

Yep! I just recently started as a nanny for a brand new family after my previous family of three years sadly moved away (which is why I was kind of off the grid for the whole month of May. It was a very sad month) I really love my job though! I get to snuggle a baby and write when he naps which is a really great schedule for me.

Are you a reader?

Siiiiiigggghhh. I try to be, but lately reading has been incredibly difficult for me. Where I used to be able to sit for hours and read a book in one sitting, I now struggle to get my brain to focus. I get caught up by the page count and how much I have left to read. I want to know everything about the story and finish it in ten minutes, and that's just not possible. So it's a struggle!

What are your other hobbies?

I dabble a little in painting and photography, and I'm also super into makeup.

Tea or coffee?

Do you have any pets?

At the moment, no. My betta fish of a year and half went to fish heaven a few weeks ago. I have no idea what was wrong with him, but he randomly just stopped... doing things. I thought he had a fungal infection, and then I thought swim bladder disease--but nothing I bought helped. He would hardly eat and would only swim at random times to desperately get to the surface for some air. I thought maybe turning off the filter would be better (or that perhaps the filter was the issue because it was getting old and probably needed to be replaced) and less than twelve hours after I unplugged it, he was dead! RIP Gerald. But here are some lovely pictures from when he was alive and well!

What was your dream job as a child/when you were younger?

Author! Every year of school they would ask us what we wanted to be, and from the very beginning my answer was an author.

If you could live anywhere else in the world, where would it be?

Probably further up north or closer to Lake Michigan. I love Michigan more than any place I've been, so I'd never want to leave this state.

Do you speak foreign languages?

...Kind of? OKAY:
The family I worked with for three years was made up of the dad who spoke English and Chinese, the mom who spoke English and Portuguese, and (at first) their son whom they wanted to teach both. I know a few words in Chinese and a lot of words in Portuguese, but they're a lot of random words. Clouds, water, shark, cat, sun, stars, pay, jump, popcorn, soldier, bridge, pee, poop, pool, house, etc. The only actual sentences I know are the words to "Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes."
As their son grew and started realizing that I'm not fluent, he would often tell me something using both English and Portuguese words. Kind of like this:

Him: Randa, I went in the aviao (airplane) and saw some big nuvens!
Me: Oh really? What are nuvens?
Him: Nuven means... nuvens. It means nuvens, Randa.
Me: ....Nuvens?
Him: Yeah! Big nuvens, it . . . they . . . look it on your phone, Randa. Look it on your phone.

And I would then proceed to Google translate what he was saying. (Nuvens means clouds, for those wondering)
Here's one of my favorite clips from a few years ago when he kept asking me for what sounded like a "pon-gee." Turns out the word is ponte, and it means bridge!

What music would we find in your collection?
A little bit of everything, really. Though I tend to stick to bands like Mayday Parade, Go Radio, and All Time Low.

And that's it for the Writers Not Writing Tag! these questions were super fun and different, so feel free to answer them if you want. I hope you all have a lovely rest of your week and get all of your writing goals accomplished!
